What does it mean to be born again? The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were stuck in a bureaucratic religious system that made the system more important than the cause for which it was founded. One of those religious leaders named, Nicodemus, had questions about Jesus. He was open-minded; he had a humble attitude; he came to learn from Jesus. God had kindled faith in his heart, and the Gospel of John uses him as example of one who is born again.
