On October 31, most everybody focuses on Halloween, but we actually have something far greater to celebrate on October 31—Reformation day! It commemorates what was perhaps the greatest move of God’s Spirit since the days of the Apostles. Martin Luther nailed his ninety-five theses to the church door on October 31, 1517. This provoked a debate that culminated in what we call the Reformation. Today we celebrate the truth in Christ that sets us free!
- God set us free through his Word – Sola Scriptura
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 (NIV)
- God set us free through grace – Sola Gratia
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace” Hebrews 13:8-9 (NLT)
- God set us free through faith – Sola Fide
“This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” Romans 3:22 (NIV)
